ROTHERHAM FLYBALL TEAMS

Andrew James   

Hi I am a long distance lorry driver and work for a distribution company in Barnsley where I have worked for the last 2 years. We got into flyball by chance when we were looking for our 2nd dog we were put in touch with a couple who ran with the Doncaster Bellestars who had a border collie on foster from Rotherham dog rescue and looking for a forever home we went to a demonstration which Doncaster where doing and this was the 1st time we had ever seen flyball and quite liked what we saw, As Doncaster wasn't taking on any new team members they put us in touch with the Sheffield Speeders and they invited us to Newark indoor competition November 2005 to take a look and meet the team and that’s where we stayed until September 2007 when we started our new team

Samantha James

As the sur names suggests I am married to Andrew and have been for 3yrs. I am an assistant manager for a retail outlet Ethel Austin at the Rotherham branch where I have worked for the last 4 years. We both wanted  a hobby or past time we could both do together and Flyball looked like the 1 as we both where very interested from the 1st time we saw the demonstration which Doncaster where putting on when we went to have a look at Paddy who was looking for a new home. We went to Newark indoor competition in November 2005 to have a look at a Flyball competition on the invitation from the Sheffield Speeders to come and meet the team and have a look. I run 2 of the dogs Ollie on the Rockets team and Max on the Runners team at this moment in time and Barney who is a trainee starter dog.

Ryan Mills

My name is Ryan Mills I have been involved with Flyball for around 10 years, I have raced with some of the top teams in the country. I started with the Rocketeers based in Manchester and then went to the Sheffield Speeders untill recently joining the Rotherham Rockets of which iam the assistant team manager. I have 7 dogs in total of which 6 do flyball,I enjoy flyballing and do most weekends either competing or training, my other hobbies are golfing, football,swimming,fishing and snooker. I have 2 lovely children Shannon & Sophie and married to Amanda and have been for 7 years and we all do do flyball together as a family. My full time employment is with the Royal Mailand has been for the last 7 years.

Amanda Mills...


My name is Amanda Mills i am 27 years of age  and

yes i am married to Ryan MIlls i have 2 children and

they are both girls i also have 7 dogs to train.  I work

at Tiddlywinks nursery in Sheffield and i love working

with children.  I am also a fully trained dog groomer

and i love spending as much time as i can with my

dogs as they are better behaved than children and

husbands.  I am also the trainer for Rotherham flyball

team i do all the training schedules for every training

session in between running my daughters around to

there swimming lessons or gymnastics lessons.

I have been in flyball for around 10 years and have

seen many good teams.

Barry Parlett

I retired from the local authority as site manager of a primary school; I worked in the steel industry from leaving school until being made redundant in 1992. I got involved with flyball when our daughter Samantha and her husband Andy talked about the competition they had been too when they collected Paddy and gave him a home. We went to several competitions with them and bought our first Border Collie McCauley as a pup from Anglesey. I now run McCauley in the Rotherham Rockets. On our return to Anglesey last year we bought another puppy this time a Border Collie Blue Merle called Cleo. I also box load for the Rotherham Runners Team.

Janet Parlett

 I am a member of the Rotherham Flyball Team; I have been married to Barry for 40yrs and have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. I have a son Leigh who is married to Allison and have a grandson Aaron and granddaughter Alish. My daughter Samantha is married to Andy (Team Manager) I have always had a love for dogs from being very small as my parents have always  had a dog, their latest dog being a rescued chocolate Labrador (Bruno) I became involved with Fly ball when at Anglesey 2006 when we purchased McCauley a Border Collie he is now in the Rotherham Rockets Team. On returning to Anglesey 2007 we purchased Cleo a Border Collie Blue Merle. I retired in April 2006 from the local authority where I worked in Social Services Revenue & Payments; I have always been involved in working in finance depts from leaving school, I do the accounts for the team and also do the times & split times for the dogs if possible.

Karl James

 My name is Karl I’m 22 years old and I’m Andy’s eldest son. I have been doing Flyball for about a year now and I run one of my dad’s dogs Max, sometimes I also run Paddy another 1 of my dad’s dogs as he box loads for our 1st team the Rockets. I am currently working in the Army as a communications engineer and have been for 5 years but I will be out in May and I am going into the profession of truck driving something my dad has been trying to put me off it since I was 6. I am also trying to teach my girlfriend Kelly about the ins and outs of flyball along with the help of the rest of the team.

 My name is Kelly and I am new to flyball and still learning about it. I have recently moved back to the UK from Cyprus/Dubai to be with my partner Karl James. I work as a key worker in a crèche. I have been working with children for 5 years and still enjoying it, but currently working in a local pub. I have 2 Rottweiller’s aged 7 and 8 but they don’t do flyball.

Shannon Mills

Hi i'm 9 years old, my hobbies are swimming and flyballing, I swim for the Sheffield city swimming club and have done since i was 7 years old, i have just started to run Lassie on our Runners team who has her platinum award and she is easy to run so i can learn how to run a dog properly for when i get my own dog. I also do the clip board job on both teams.

Sophie Mills

My name is Sophie Mills and i am 7 years old. I have got long blonde hair and go to Sheffield primary school. At flyball i have 2 full time jobs one is to look after tyler the retired dog and the other is to collect all balls off the floor an especially floss's balls before max gets hold of them.  My hobbies are flyballing, fishing, swimming and I also like to golfing with my dad I have lots of pets from rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, about 50 fish,7 dogs and my cat molly who sleeps with me at night ( not that many really).
